Many of our paving and sealcoating customers have the same questions about our services. Below are answers to some of the frequently asked questions we get about our asphalt paving and sealcoating services.
Why should I seal my driveway or parking lot?
Asphalt deteriorates over time when exposed to sun, moisture, and oil and chemical spills. Sealcoating your driveway or parking lot can almost double the lifespan of your surface. The average driveway lasts about 15 years without sealcoating, but with treatment every 3 years it can last nearly 30 years.
How often should I sealcoat my asphalt surface?
It’s recommended that you sealcoat your driveway or parking lot six months after installation. After that, the frequency depends on the amount of traffic the surface sees. For a residential driveway, sealcoating once every three years is recommended; for a busy parking lot, it may be required every year.
How long will my paving or sealcoating project take?
It really depends on the size and nature of the project. A small sealcoating project—a normal residential driveway, for example—only takes a few hours. A large-scale paving project can last up to 2-4 days. We will do everything we can to complete your project in a timely manner so you can begin using your surface.
How much will my paving or sealcoating project cost?
Again, every job is different. The price of your job will be determined by a number of factors including the extent of the work to be performed, the size of your pavement surface, the amount of material needed, and the type of equipment required. When you contact us for a quote, we will come to your property, evaluate your pavement surface, and go over your options, explaining the advantages or disadvantages of each recommendation.
How long do I need to stay off my new asphalt surface?
You can walk on the surface immediately, but you should keep vehicles off of the surface for three days.
What is the best time of year to sealcoat my driveway or parking lot?
In Virginia, the paving season runs from about April through November, depending on the weather.
Can I resurface my existing pavement?
Although there are multiple factors to consider, the condition of the base is the most important variable. If the base is in poor condition, you probably should replace the entire surface.
Do you paint the stripes on my parking lot?
Yes, Virginia Paving and Sealcoating will paint stripes on your parking lot (or re-paint, as the case may be) after our work is completed.
